could not unmount disk external hard drive time machine

It is a 1TB HD, plugged into a USB docking station. The OS/hard drive in question, is definitely not a 'stick'. To the best of my knowledge, it should not running, considering that I had to reboot to startup MINT LINUX LIVE.

I have no idea if Sabayon OS is stuck in a loop. I even tried to unmount it using a partitioning application again, with the same error message that it was 'busy' Talk about super glue! So I'm here to find out what your have in your magic bag to make MINT release it's chains from that external hard drive. I also tried to unmount it from the /media/ directory. I need to unmount that hard drive and use the e2fsck command for determining whether it is a defective OS, or the hard drive is actually broken. And, if I were to use 'e2fsck /dev/sdb1 while it is mounted, and if the directories are not broken, I would most likely break the os. It kept on telling me that the hard drive is 'busy'.

Mint would NOT allow me to unmount that hard drive so that I could test it to find out what the problems is. It runs in a USB external docking station, with Sabayon in it.Īs root, after finding out that the external HD is /dev/sdb1, I proceeded to write in the console, 'umount /dev/sdb1'. Next in the console, I found the external hard drive that's popping up error messages that there are errors in it. I then created my 'root' passwd in 'Konsole'. I didn't know the live passwd for mint, so I came to this site to find that out. I used Mint to troubleshoot the problem, in an external DVD/BD drive, in 'live' mode. I've a problem with my current OS or it's hard drive.
